STEAM Workshop in Panama City
In October 2023, I traveled to Panama City to conduct a comprehensive STEAM workshop for elementary school teachers, ahead of judging at the World Robot Olympiad 2023 International Final. The three-day workshop focused on integrating STEAM principles into everyday classroom activities, making science and technology more accessible and engaging for young learners.
The workshop covered a range of topics, from simple coding exercises suitable for early elementary grades to more complex engineering challenges for older students. Teachers participated in hands-on activities that they could directly implement in their classrooms, using readily available and affordable materials.
One of the highlights was the collaborative robot-building session, where teachers worked in teams to design and construct simple robots using recycled materials. This activity demonstrated how engineering principles could be taught while also promoting environmental awareness.
Feedback from the participating teachers was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement about bringing these new approaches back to their classrooms.
